What do fast fashion and messy code have in common? They both leave a terrible mess for the people who will be here after us.
I love fashion and I love shopping. A few years ago, I used to buy a new set of clothes every week, until COVID came along and I realized something bad was happening to our planet. Did you know that every year, 92 million tons of textile waste end up in landfills?
This realization wasn’t just about my closet, it made me see the same patterns of waste in our code during my work as a software engineer. For instance, do you really need another black T-shirt? Just like in fast fashion, code duplication adds no real value and makes everything harder to manage - all piling up like last season’s trends. We can reuse our functions exactly like we can reuse our outfits.
