Noa is a Frontend Team Lead at Wix with a rich background in the tech industry. She started her journey at Wix Bookings 7 years ago and currently, she is transitioning to backend development.
Her responsibilities included taking the major Wix Bookings live site flows from design to implementation, improving performance, optimizing SEO and more.

In 2007, Noa was set to go down a completely different path in life, as a Human Resources major. It was actually a friend, who persuaded her to make a switch and convincingly said, “Noa, you are going to learn computer science and earn 10k a month”. Though Noa didn’t fully grasp what she was getting into, she decided to go for it. Looking back, that spontaneous decision completely changed the course of her life, fulfilling herself in ways money can’t buy.

Did you know that legend has it that NASA spent millions to develop a pen that would write in space, whereas the soviets just used a pencil?
As engineers, we often strive for completion and precision. We want to cover all cases and leave no loose ends. This sometimes might lead us to complex solutions. Is this always the right approach?

The KISS principle (Keep it Simple, Stupid) is well known in many other areas of life, and it’s a principle I believe we should also look for when it comes to software design.
It requires compromises - and sometimes this is the right thing to do!

In this talk, I’ll present the thinking process we went through to build a URL API for Wix Bookings Calendar page. Starting from a complex solution, observing red flags, iterating, and eventually coming up with a much simpler solution, with compromises :)
