Every great RPG has side quests. Some people skip them, keen to complete the main storyline. But those who take the time to explore, help others, and build connections often unlock skills, allies, and opportunities they never expected. The same is true in tech.

The best engineers aren’t just great at writing code; they also know how to bring people together. Mentoring, organising events, documenting knowledge, connecting people - this work strengthens teams, builds communities, and creates new opportunities. It’s how people learn, share, and build new ideas. This type of knowledge sharing is essential to how our community evolves, how people grow, and how the next generation of engineers can do more than we did.

In this talk, we’ll explore how community “glue” work, like mentoring or organising events, can teach important leadership skills. We’ll discuss why companies need to start recognising and rewarding this work, and why the future of tech depends on the strength of its communities.

What can tech teams learn from a theme park? More than you might think. Disney is known for crafting magical experiences: not just in its parks but also in its approach to design, storytelling, and creating spaces where people feel valued and inspired.

In this talk, I’ll share lessons from Disney that we can apply to our work in tech. Whether building a great internal developer culture, designing memorable events, or fostering engaged and supportive communities, the principles Disney uses to create unforgettable experiences can help us craft a culture where people feel connected, motivated, and excited to contribute.

Drawing on my own experiences as both an engineer and a Disney fan, I’ll share how to create a sense of wonder and purpose in everything you do. Let’s help you bring a little Disney magic into your work!

Have you ever had that voice in your head tell you: "you're not ready", " you're not the right fit" or "you're not good enough"? We all have stories we tell ourselves - narratives about whether we belong in certain rooms or whether we should step up for a new challenge. Often, these internal scripts hold us back from stepping forward for the opportunities we actually want.

In this session, we will look at why we experience self-doubt and share practical tools to reframe those internal narratives. We’ll move from challenging the stories that hold us back to building a personal brand that feels authentic. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of your professional impact and the tools to make it visible.
