When the workforce is saturated with incredible talent, how can you truly stand out? For someone who’s coming from a different industry you may think less of yourself and say something like: “I don’t have any relevant experience,” or “what could I even give to the industry?”
That’s where the shift in your mindset comes in, and your doubts fly out the door.
After this talk, the audience will leave with tangible, actionable & immediate steps each and every one of them can take in order to make the career switch they desire.
In an inspiring and practical talk, Maya Avisar breaks down the steps to a successful career change from her personal experience in transitioning to the tech industry after working as a producer and actor in New York City’s glamorous Broadway.
The Unconventional Choice: What Happens When You Hire a Broadway Professional to a Position in Tech?
General, Soft Skills, Professional Development, HR, Leadership, Community / Networking, Diversity and Inclusion, Innovation, Inspirational
In today's world, we must think outside the box and be willing to take a risk on applicants with diverse backgrounds - unconventional choices. We naturally lean towards searching for something specific, the image we've had in mind, and we risk missing out on a great opportunity to bring in uniqueness.
Maya Avisar returned to Israel from New York City with zero background in the tech industry, but an extensive background on Broadway. With a BFA in musical theatre and tons of motivation, she was able to break through and join a startup company as a project manager; a place that was willing to take a risk and invest in the unconventional choice.
Were they able to make a return on their investment? How can one identify the skills and talents that a potential candidate can transfer? What are the advantages of making this choice, and why should you consider it for the next position you'll be hiring?
All of this and more will be discussed in Maya Avisar's talk.
