From Suffrage to Software: Empowering RAG Development Through the Lens of Women's History
Women in Tech, Innovation, Data / AI / ML, Software Engineering

This interdisciplinary workshop bridges technology, history, and social studies by exploring Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) through women's historical narratives. Participants will discover how cross-disciplinary learning transforms technical skill development, breaking down traditional academic silos to create more holistic understanding.
By using historical documents from women's movements as our primary dataset, attendees will learn RAG techniques while gaining insights into social change, technological innovation, and historical research. The workshop demonstrates how interdisciplinary approaches can enrich technical learning, revealing complex connections between seemingly disparate fields.
Participants will develop practical RAG skills—creating vector embeddings, implementing retrieval strategies, and enhancing information generation—while simultaneously exploring the rich intellectual contributions of women throughout history. This approach not only teaches technical competence but also cultivates critical thinking, contextual understanding, and a deeper appreciation for diverse knowledge systems.
