Cultural Agility, the ability to navigate cross-cultural differences to communicate successfully, is a fundamental element of international business success. All aspects of business, including relationship building and problem-solving, are impacted by culture. Cultural agility has become a standard component in the talent management and development strategies of many leading organizations. Understanding different cultural interactions and business styles strengthen team cohesiveness and effectiveness across all corporate functions from sales to procurement, technology, and support services.
Thomas Friedman said, “The World Is Flat.” Tech advances have shortened the distance between countries, businesses, and employees and while globalization has increased cross-cultural interactions, it has not created a one-world culture. The ability to manage and leverage specific cultural differences plays a significant role in becoming a successful global leader.

“There is more content created in 48 hours than there was from the beginning of time until 2003.” (Eric Schmidt, Google)
We live in a borderless world that allows for wide-scale distribution of information and enables mass collaboration across countries, cultures, and people.
Much of the collaboration is done via remote work with offices in multiple locations and virtual teams disbursed globally, contributing to innovation, diverse ideas, and flexibility. That said working virtually creates numerous challenges some of which are rooted in cultural misunderstandings due to language, communication, and different work styles.
Digital fluency is the ability to navigate virtual working eloquently. With digital fluency, technology becomes an enabler, building relationships and breaking down barriers. Developing the skill of digital fluency translates into more efficiency and productivity.
