//KEYNOTE - Why We Still Need International Women's Day
Women currently hold ~20% of the world’s engineering roles, less than 10% of the senior leadership roles, and are twice as likely to leave the workforce. According to a recent Stack Overflow survey, a senior female software engineer exhibits as much confidence in herself after twice as many years in the field, compared to her male counterpart.
International Women's Day, held on March 8, is a global day dedicated to the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, celebrated for well over a century. This significant day - often extended into a full month - serves as more than just a celebration; It marks a call to act for women's equality.
At Women on Stage, we take pride in acknowledging and celebrating the achievements of women leaders in the global tech scene. But in light of the staggering statistics in tech, we understand there's still a long journey ahead. That's precisely what we strive to address.
In this talk, I will share the story behind Women on Stage and discuss the importance of role models for women in tech – not just on International Women’s Day (IWD), but every day. I’ll also explain why IWD remains profoundly important, especially in the tech industry, demonstrating why representation matters, and how we can all make a difference.
