What Is Your Filesystem Hiding From You?
Security / Privacy, General, Software Engineering
Some of the most basic uses of a computer are creating, opening and running files, but do you know how it works? What other things can files do? How do they make you vulnerable?
When you understand how files work and what to look out for, you can help protect your data and privacy as well as unlock new possibilities and functions you were unaware of.
In this talk, we will go over what is a filesystem and how it functions. Specifically, we will dive into the NTFS file system and some of its features. We will get to know features you might have thought are “innocent” but can be abused, and look at them from both an attacker's point of view and a forensic point of view.
